Continue a ChatGPT conversation in a new chat
Long threads get slow and start losing track of early details. Save what matters as a handoff, open a fresh chat, and pick up exactly where you left off.
How to do it
Install Jotter once
In ChatGPT, open the Plugins tab, search for Jotter, install it, and sign in. It takes about a minute.
Say “jot this”
At the end of the long chat, say “jot this” or “save this as a handoff”. Jotter saves a short brief and gives you a code.
Continue fresh
Open a new chat and say “continue my last handoff”. ChatGPT loads the brief and carries on.
Why not just copy and paste?
Pasting a long thread moves the clutter along with it, and writing your own summary takes time you were trying to save. A handoff is written by the assistant that has the full context, keeps code, numbers, and error messages word for word, and lives outside the chat, so it is still there next week and loads anywhere Jotter is connected, including Codex and Claude.
Questions
Does the new chat see my whole old conversation?
No. It sees the handoff, a focused brief written from the old chat. That usually works better than the full thread, because it carries the decisions and next steps without the back and forth.
Can I keep using the old chat?
Yes. Saving a jot changes nothing in the original conversation. You can go back to it any time.
Does it work in Codex too?
Yes. ChatGPT and Codex share one plugin directory, so installing Jotter once makes your handoffs available in both. In Codex you call it with $Jotter.
How much does it cost?
Free for 10 jots, kept forever. Pro is $19 a year for 5,000 jots.
